The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has found evidence of highly inflated pricing in the procurement of equipment under LGED’s Tk 1,900-crore B-Sting project. Items such as four laptops reportedly cost Tk 11 lakh, while each motorcycle was priced at Tk 2.5 lakh, among other suspiciously high procurement rates in the initial project phase.
On Tuesday, April 29, ACC officials conducted a raid at the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) headquarters and found these discrepancies. Although the ACC team could not meet the chief engineer or project leads, they spoke with Assistant Chief Engineer Abdul Mannan.
According to ACC Assistant Director Papon Kumar Saha, the irregularities are tied to a cyclone mitigation project approved by ECNEC just last month for six districts in the Chattogram division. He stated that further action would follow upon analysis of the findings.
Meanwhile, LGED officials reportedly tried to prevent journalists from entering the office during the ACC raid.
