Trading Disrupted by Network Issues, Stocks Drop

On Sunday, January 5, 2025, due to network issues, the trading at the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) could not begin at the scheduled time. The session was delayed by an hour and a half, starting at 11:30 AM instead of 10:00 AM. Despite the delay, the trading period was shortened by an hour compared to the usual schedule. As a result, most stocks saw a decline in value, and the market index dropped. The DSE saw 73 companies’ shares increase in value, while 270 experienced a drop, and 54 remained unchanged. The main index, DSEX, fell by 34 points to 5,165. Trading volume decreased slightly to BDT 311.66 crore from BDT 313.65 crore on the previous day. The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also witnessed a decline in its index, CASPI, by 92 points, with a decrease in the trading value to BDT 13.62 crore. The top traded companies included Fine Foods, Midland Bank, and Robi.
