Saudi Arabia’s national carrier, Saudia Airlines, has announced plans to resume direct flights between Dhaka and Riyadh from October 28, provided no new security risks emerge.

The airline informed authorities at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport of its decision on Tuesday evening, October 27, according to airport officials.

Saudia had suspended direct flights on the route following a Houthi attack at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on October 10.

Other airlines operating between Dhaka and Riyadh, including Biman Bangladesh Airlines and private carrier US-Bangla Airlines, had also suspended direct services indefinitely amid security concerns.

During the suspension, many passengers travelling to Riyadh entered Saudi Arabia through alternative routes, including connecting flights via Jeddah and Medina.

The airlines said passengers were not charged additional fees for schedule changes during the disruption.

Meanwhile, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has announced the cancellation of its flights to Riyadh and Dammam through November 4.

Saudia’s planned resumption would offer passengers another direct travel option between Bangladesh and the Saudi capital, although the restart remains subject to the security situation.
