Following protests and an attack within the premises of Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, Indian authorities have strengthened security around the Indian High Commission in Dhaka. Starting Monday night, December 2, the Diplomatic Security Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) increased security measures in the area surrounding the Indian High Commission.
According to the Diplomatic Security Division, enhanced security arrangements have been in place since Monday night, including additional deployment of police personnel in and around the high commission area. Security checkpoints on roads leading to the Indian High Commission from Gulshan and Pragati Sarani have also been reinforced, although such checkpoints are a regular feature.
A senior official from the Diplomatic Security Division stated that there is no specific threat or heightened risk to the Indian High Commission. However, security measures were bolstered as a precautionary response to the incident in Agartala.
Meanwhile, the attack by members of an extremist Hindutva group on Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala, in violation of international law, has sparked widespread public outrage in Bangladesh. Various organizations and members of the public have expressed their condemnation through protests in Dhaka and across the country.
