Mixed Reactions in Stock Market as Indices Fluctuate

On Monday, the second trading day of the week, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s primary stock market, saw a rise in indices despite most shares experiencing a decline. Additionally, trading turnover increased compared to the previous day. Meanwhile, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) observed a drop in its indices, though its trading turnover also improved.
Throughout the day, the DSE witnessed fluctuations, but by the close, the benchmark DSEX index gained 12.74 points, or 0.24%, to settle at 5,211.53 points. The DS30 index rose by 6.69 points (0.34%) to 1,928.33 points, while the Shariah-compliant DSES index increased by 7.03 points (0.60%) to 1,160.63 points. Total turnover at the DSE amounted to BDT 443.56 crore, an increase of BDT 27.6 crore from the previous session’s BDT 415.95 crore. A total of 15.47 crore shares were traded across 1.35 lakh transactions, with prices of 176 companies rising, 156 falling, and 64 remaining unchanged.
Grameenphone Limited topped the DSE in turnover, with shares worth BDT 40.32 crore traded. Other major contributors included Beach Hatchery Limited (BDT 13.26 crore), BRAC Bank PLC (BDT 11.22 crore), Robi Axiata PLC (BDT 11.02 crore), and British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited (BDT 9.31 crore). The highest price gainers included Shinepukur Ceramics Limited, which rose by 9.64%, followed by S. Alam Cold Rolled Steels Limited (9.34%), KDS Accessories Limited (8.47%), and several others.
At the CSE, the CSCX index gained 44.63 points (0.50%) to close at 8,835.67 points, while the CASPI index rose by 71.69 points (0.49%) to 14,576.20 points. A total of 193 companies were traded, with 88 gaining, 70 declining, and 35 remaining unchanged. Turnover at the CSE amounted to BDT 2.91 crore, slightly down from the previous session’s BDT 4.54 crore. Among the top CSE performers in terms of turnover were Tafika Foods & Lovello Ice Cream PLC (BDT 40 lakh), Robi Axiata PLC (BDT 27 lakh), and Grameenphone Limited (BDT 19 lakh).
