At an event held in Banani, Dhaka, on Thursday, May 15, organized by the Policy Research Institute (PRI), Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, emphasized Bangladesh’s firm commitment to graduating from its Least Developed Country (LDC) status despite existing risks. Speaking as the chief guest at the launch of the “Monthly Macroeconomic Insights” report, he stressed that substantial reforms are not always necessary for development. Citing Japan’s economic turnaround within just 15 years, he noted that many Asian economies have similarly risen within a decade or so. The key, according to him, lies in adopting the right policies and ensuring coordinated implementation. He also criticized previous governments for lacking clear targets in this regard.
The event featured analysis on GDP growth, investment, remittances, and exports. Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Md. Habibur Rahman, stated that the country has moved past financial sector concerns. The opening remarks were delivered by PRI’s Executive Director Khurshid Alam, while the main paper was presented by Zaidi Sattar and Chief Economist Ashikur Rahman. Sattar focused on external sectors and the global economic outlook. Among other notable attendees were Clinton Pobke, Deputy Head of Mission of the Australian High Commission in Bangladesh, and Joshua Gasutan, Second Secretary.
