Biman Bangladesh Airlines has significantly reduced incidents of ticket blocking and advance seat booking without passenger names or passports, according to its MD and CEO, Shafiqur Rahman. Speaking at a meeting with the executive committee of the Aviation and Tourism Journalists’ Forum of Bangladesh (ATJFB) at Biman’s headquarters in Kurmitola, he stated that any employee found engaging in ticketing irregularities is immediately removed from their department.

Addressing concerns about ticket blocking and artificial seat shortages on flights to Saudi Arabia and the Middle East, he assured that no advance bookings are currently made without proper passenger details. He personally oversees the situation, and those previously involved in such practices have been reassigned to different departments.

Regarding baggage management issues at Dhaka Airport, he acknowledged infrastructural challenges but emphasized ongoing improvements. Complaints are addressed promptly, and once the airport’s third terminal becomes operational, baggage handling is expected to improve. To enhance transparency, body-worn cameras are now mandatory for staff handling luggage, with 150 additional cameras purchased to strengthen monitoring.

On hajj flight preparations, he confirmed that Biman’s current fleet is adequate for regular operations, but due to high demand during the hajj season, flights on some routes may be temporarily reduced to accommodate hajj travelers.

Additionally, efforts are being made to minimize flight delays, enhance staff behavior, and create a more passenger-friendly experience. ATJFB President Tanzim Anwar also urged Biman to take further steps to improve overall passenger satisfaction.
