Just hours after the national team’s loss, Sumaiya Akter and her team secured a resounding victory over the West Indies in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, almost as if to avenge the defeat. Having already been eliminated from the tournament following a loss to India, this final match for Bangladesh was a mere formality. Yet, the young Tigresses showcased their dominance by crushing the West Indies U-19 women’s team by 10 wickets in a rain-affected match in Kuala Lumpur.

Chasing a modest target of 55 runs, the Bangladeshi openers, Fahmida Choya and Jowairia Ferdous, started aggressively. Despite struggling with batting throughout the tournament, Bangladesh excelled in this match. The opening pair added 36 runs in the powerplay without losing a wicket and maintained their momentum thereafter. Jowairia sealed the victory in the ninth over with a boundary off Erin Dean’s delivery. The wicketkeeper-batter remained unbeaten on 25 runs from 28 balls, while her partner Fahmida stayed not out on 14.

Earlier, the West Indies struggled after opting to bat first, losing wickets at regular intervals. Their top scorers were Amrita Ramtahal (16), Naijanni Cumbers (13), and Asabi Callender (11). For Bangladesh, Nishitha Akter Nishi delivered an exceptional performance, claiming 3 wickets for just 11 runs, while Anisa Akter Soba picked up 2 wickets.
