Mahmudullah Announces Retirement from International Cricket

Mahmudullah Riyad has announced his retirement from international cricket, officially stepping away from all formats. The 39-year-old batter had already retired from Test and T20 formats earlier, and he made the decision to end his career in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) through a Facebook post on Wednesday evening. He thanked his teammates, coaches, and especially his fans for their unwavering support throughout his career. Mahmudullah expressed his gratitude to his parents, in-laws, and particularly his brother, who has been his mentor since childhood. He also thanked his wife and children for standing by him in tough times.
He emphasized that not everything ends perfectly, but one must keep moving forward. This announcement follows his withdrawal from Bangladesh’s central contract earlier in the week, where he confirmed that he would not be part of the national contract from March onwards. Mahmudullah’s retirement leaves a gap, as he was one of the key figures in Bangladesh’s middle-order for many years. His career highlights include an impressive performance at the 2023 World Cup, where he scored consistently, including a century against South Africa at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. His retirement concludes an international career that began in 2007 and spanned across 239 ODIs, with a total of 430 international matches played in all formats.
