Jamie Vardy, once an unheralded striker from the fourth tier of English football, was picked up by Leicester City at the age of 25 with modest expectations. But what followed was nothing short of a fairytale. After 13 years with the Foxes, Vardy is now set to bring his journey with Leicester to a close, though he isn’t hanging up his boots just yet.

Since joining Leicester, Vardy’s rise has been remarkable. He not only became a key figure for the club but also earned a place in the England national team and established himself as one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards. In the 2019–20 season, at age 33, he became the oldest player to win the Premier League Golden Boot. Last season, he was instrumental in Leicester’s promotion back to the Premier League, scoring 18 goals. Even amid a struggling campaign this year, he managed to find the net seven times.

Leicester’s current season has been dismal, with the club suffering relegation and enduring an embarrassing run of nine home matches without scoring. Vardy, acknowledging the disappointment, has publicly apologized to the fans.

Reflecting on his departure, Vardy said, “After being here so long, I never imagined this chapter would end. Writing my farewell message was tough, but making the decision was even harder. Leicester City has become a second home for me. The club, the city, and its people mean a great deal to me.”

He added, “I still want to play. I love scoring goals and being on the pitch. Hopefully, I’ll get to wear the Leicester shirt a couple more times before the season ends. Even at 38, my hunger for the game and for winning hasn’t gone away.”
